Practice Guidelines and Lesson Etiquette

Practice Guidelines

Kathy Charles with students

Students are expected to be prepared for each week’s lesson.

A regular time should be set aside each day for practice in order to establish a routine that will become a daily habit.

Daily practice is important to the reinforcement of skills.

A practice session is a time for uninterrupted concentration and should be in a quiet, well-lighted room on a reasonably maintained piano.

Six practice sessions per week are recommended. Daily length of practice should be the same length as your weekly lesson time for 5 – 6 days per week.

It is important that students practice for goals rather than minutes. Lessons are designed to achieve goals each week.

Nothing contributes more to a bad attitude about music study than a lack of consistent practice.

I encourage parents to insure that practice guidelines are being met.
